Indie is a genre of music that tends to fly slightly under the mainstream of music. Long ago, music used to be created for the sake of expressing creativity through beautiful sounds and it was mostly discovered through word of mouth. The word “Indie” is shortened form for the word “Independent.” So by definition, any band that strives to make their music independently can be considered Indie. There is a connotation of Indie, however, that is conjured up whenever that particular word is mentioned. “Indie” bands are thought to have a certain sound, (guitar, drums, strings, etc,) that give them distinction in the world of music today.
